2nd Grade Parent Update

Week of May 14 - 18

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you wonderful moms I have the pleasure of working with!

I hope you all enjoyed a beautiful day with your families yesterday!

Announcements for this Week:

General Parent Meeting

The last parent meeting of the year will be held on Monday, May 14 at 6:30 PM in the Parish Hall. Come join us to hear our end-of-the-year announcements, make plans for the 2012-2013 school year, and meet our new principal, Mrs. Jones!

Activity Day

Activity Day will take place this Friday, May 18. Students should wear their P.E. uniforms to school along with sunscreen and a hat. They will also need to bring $1 to participate in the Cake Walk. We are still in need of parent volunteers and donations for the day, including fruit for snacks and cakes for the Cake Walk.  Kids are also asked to bring canned goods for the LAX Food Pantry on Friday.

Because of Activity Day, Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 17 instead of Friday this week. Students will need to arrive at school at 7:45 AM on Thursday for Mass. The Spelling Test and other weekly assessments will be given on Thursday, although Readings Logs will still be collected on Friday.

Race for Success

Loyola Marymount University is hosting its annual Race for Success to support Westchester, Playa del Rey, and Playa Vista schools. You can get involved by pledging and participating in the 5K Run/Walk or the Kids 1K. You can also donate $10 and register as a Virtual Runner online. Looking Ahead:

Memorial Day Weekend

There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, May 25 due to a Staff Development Meeting. There will also be NO SCHOOL on Monday, May 28 in honor of Memorial Day. 

Upcoming Field Trips

We will join the primary grades for a field trip to the zoo on Thursday, June 7. More details will be forthcoming, along with permission slips for the trip. We are also working on organizing a walking field trip to visit our pen pal class for a picnic at Westport Heights Elementary School. What fun! 

Eighth Grade Play

The Graduating Class of 2012 will be performing “Alice in Wonderland” on Friday, June 1 at 7:00 PM. Students and families of all grade levels are invited to attend!
