I hope everyone enjoyed a happy and restful Memorial Day weekend!

Announcements for this Week:

May Awards Assembly

The monthly assembly for May will take place on Thursday, May 31 at 8:00 AM on the front yard. We will celebrate May birthdays and honor this month’s virtue award winners for demonstrating the virtue of Responsibility.

Pen Pal Visit

Our pen pals from Westport Heights Elementary School will be visiting our class on Friday, June 1 after recess. If anyone would be interested in donating snacks, juice, popsicles, or small items for treat bags, please contact me ASAP!

Eighth Grade Play

The Class of 2012 will be performing “Alice in Wonderland” on Friday, June 1 at 7:00 PM in the Parish Hall. Students and families are invited to attend!

Looking Ahead:

Upcoming Field Trips

Our field trip to the Los Angeles Zoo will take place on Thursday, June 7. Please remember to send your child’s lunch in a disposable bag labeled with his or her name - no lunch boxes, no tupperware!  I also suggest that students wear their P.E. uniforms and tennis shoes as they will be more comfortable for walking.

We will also have a field trip on Friday, June 8 to Westport Heights Elementary to visit our pen pal class at their school. Permission slips will be coming home soon!

Eighth Grade Graduation

Graduation will be held on Friday, June 8 at 6:00 PM in the Church. Students are invited to attend this special school event and participate by singing in the choir. Students participating in the choir should wear their school uniforms.

End of the Year Awards Ceremony

Parents are invited to attend the End of the Year Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, June 13 at 11:00 AM in the Church. School will be dismissed following the ceremony at 12:30 PM.

Last Day of School

The last day of school will be Thursday, June 14. Students will attend Mass at 8:00 AM, pick up their report cards, and then be dismissed for the Knott’s Berry Farm Field Trip.

Memorial Day Weekend

There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, May 25 due to a Staff Development Meeting. There will also be NO SCHOOL on Monday, May 28 in honor of Memorial Day.

2nd Grade Parent Update

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you wonderful moms I have the pleasure of working with!

I hope you all enjoyed a beautiful day with your families yesterday!

Announcements for this Week:

General Parent Meeting

The last parent meeting of the year will be held on Monday, May 14 at 6:30 PM in the Parish Hall. Come join us to hear our end-of-the-year announcements, make plans for the 2012-2013 school year, and meet our new principal, Mrs. Jones!

Activity Day

Activity Day will take place this Friday, May 18. Students should wear their P.E. uniforms to school along with sunscreen and a hat. They will also need to bring $1 to participate in the Cake Walk. We are still in need of parent volunteers and donations for the day, including fruit for snacks and cakes for the Cake Walk.  Kids are also asked to bring canned goods for the LAX Food Pantry on Friday.

Because of Activity Day, Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 17 instead of Friday this week. Students will need to arrive at school at 7:45 AM on Thursday for Mass. The Spelling Test and other weekly assessments will be given on Thursday, although Readings Logs will still be collected on Friday.

Race for Success

Loyola Marymount University is hosting its annual Race for Success to support Westchester, Playa del Rey, and Playa Vista schools. You can get involved by pledging and participating in the 5K Run/Walk or the Kids 1K. You can also donate $10 and register as a Virtual Runner online. Check out their website at: http://www.raceforsuccess5k.org/

Congratulations to our First Communicants and their families!

Announcements for this Week:

Meet New Principal, Mrs. Suzanne Jones

Please take advantage of two upcoming opportunities to meet our new principal, Mrs. Suzanne Jones! We will be hosting a Meet and Greet on Tuesday, May 8 at 6:30 PM in the Parish Hall. She will also be present at the mandatory General Parent Meeting on Monday, May 14 at 6:30 PM in the Parish Hall.

 May Crowning Mass

There will be a special school Mass on Friday, May 11 at 11:00 AM in honor of the Crowning of Mary. Students are encouraged to bring cut flowers for Mary. The second graders will be participating in this Mass as the Honor Guard. They should dress in their First Communion attire or white dresses for the girls and white shirts and black slacks for the boys. Parents are invited to join us for Mass.
