Week of January 9 - 13

2nd Grade Parent Update
Week of January 9 - 13
Announcements for this Week:
Career Interviews and Reports
Students will be receiving information today about our next “long-term” project - Career Interviews and Research Reports. This project will supplement our in-class study of community and economics. Students will be asked to interview a family member or family friend with an interesting career and create a report that explains and evaluates the profession. Interviews should be completed by Tuesday, January 17 as we will be working on the writing process in class. Reports will be due on Monday, January 23.
Career Day
In addition to the Career Reports, I would also like to invite you to help us build our understanding of careers, economics, and community by participating in our Second Grade Career Day! I am seeking parents and family members who would be willing to spend about 15 - 20 minutes speaking to the class about their jobs. Please complete and return the attached handout if you are able to participate in our Career Day on Friday, January 20 between 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM.
Looking Ahead:
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 16 as we join the community in remembering the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I highly recommend celebrating by attending the annual Kingdom Day Parade. The parade begins at 11:00 AM at MLK Blvd. and Western Ave. and will continue west on MLK and south on Crenshaw Blvd., ending with a festival at Leimert Park. The California African American Museum in Exposition Park is also sponsoring a special program in honor of Dr. King. It will be held on Sunday, January 15 at 1:00 PM.
Second Trimester Progress Reports
Progress reports for the second trimester will be distributed on Tuesday, January 17 for students who may require extra support in a particular subject area. Remember - you can always use your login information to access Gradelink if you would like to check on your child’s progress in between grading periods.
Gateway to Art
Our next Gateway to Art session will be on Tuesday, January 17 at 1:30 PM. Please contact our docent, Mrs. Adela Rogers, if you are able to volunteer!
January Awards Assembly
The Awards Assembly for the month of January will be on Thursday, January 26 in the Front Yard. The Virtue Awards winners for this month will be honored.
Catholic Schools Week
Catholic Schools Week will begin with an all-school Mass on Sunday, January 29. We ask that all school families please join us at the 9:00 AM Mass that Sunday. Our celebration of Catholic schools will continue throughout the week with several special events, including Open House on Thursday, February 2 and a “parents-only” Mardi Gras night on Saturday, February 4. Mark your calendars!
