2nd Grade Parent Update
Week of April 2 - 6
Announcements for this Week:
Gateway to Art
Our Gateway to Art session last week was cancelled due to a family emergency for our docent. We will make up the project on a date to be determined.
SJS Talent Showcase
Auditions for the first annual SJS Talent Showcase will take place this week on Tuesday, April 3 and Wednesday, April 4 at 3:15 PM in the Parish Hall. The performance will be held on Friday, May 4 at 7:00 PM.
Operation Rice Bowl
The Lenten season calls us to three missions at this time of year: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Several children are getting involved by sacrificing a favorite treat and attending weekly Stations of the Cross presentations. Please encourage your children to participate by donating money to Operation Rice Bowl in the small boxes distributed at the beginning of Lent. Support us in our mission of children helping children and bring in your Rice Bowls for collection this week!
Holy Week
St. Jerome celebrates Holy Week with a series of traditions which culminate with the Triduum, three special days. On Holy Thursday, April 5, the living Stations of the Cross will be performed in the morning at school. Students will be dismissed at 12:30 PM on Thursday. There will also be a special Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7:00 PM which you and your family are invited to attend.
There will be no school on Good Friday, April 6, but there will be several special events going on at St. Jerome Church including an ecumenical procession and prayer service starting at 11:00 AM as well as opportunities to participate in the Liturgy of the Passion and Veneration of the Cross at 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
The Easter Vigil will take place on Saturday evening at 8:00 PM.
Morning Masses will be offered on Easter Sunday at 7:30, 9:00, and 11:00 AM.
Easter Vacation
Students will be dismissed at 12:30 PM on Holy Thursday, April 5. There will be NO SCHOOL on Good Friday, April 6. Easter Vacation will continue the next week through Monday, April 16. School will resume on Tuesday, April 17.
Looking Ahead:
An Elegant Night on the Nile
Don’t forget your Gala tickets! Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 21!
First Communion Preparation
Second graders are studying the Sacrament of the Eucharist in Religion class, and many of them will be preparing for their First Holy Communion over the next several weeks. First Communion will be celebrated on Sunday, May 6 at the 9:00 AM Mass. Students will prepare for the rite during class time at school, but parents will need to attend a meeting on Wednesday, April 25 at 7:15 PM.
Families will need to prepare the First Communion banners by April 25, but we cannot get materials ready for you without help! If you can volunteer to cut cloth or sew hems for the First Communion banners, please contact Mrs. Toth at the Religious Education Center. Her direct phone number is (310) 645 - 8318.
