Week of September 5 - 9

2nd Grade Parent Update
Week of September 5 - 9
I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing Labor Day weekend!
Announcements for this Week:
Computer Class Materials
Students will need their headphones and Computer Contracts for the Computer Lab this week. Please send in a set of headphones in a labeled Ziploc bag as soon as possible. The pink Computer Use Contracts are DUE by September 8.
Math Facts
The first chapter in our Math curriculum is a review of basic addition and subtraction concepts. I would like to suggest that you include practicing basic adding and subtracting as part of your regular homework routine. I encourage using flash cards, worksheets, online games, or any other strategies or media that work for your child. I particularly want to emphasize memorizing the “doubles facts” (2 + 2, 3 + 3, etc.) and “ways to make 10” (1 + 9, 2 + 8, 3 + 7, etc.). Feel free to contact me with questions or ideas!
Family Mass
Our Second Grade Family Mass will be on Sunday, September 11 at 9:00 AM. Our Family Mass will be shared with the Eighth Grade class, and this will be our opportunity to fundraise for field trips and classroom events for the school year. It is also gives us a chance to bring our new class together to worship and build community. Students should arrive at Mass at 8:45 AM in their dress uniforms to serve as greeters and singers in the choir. Our Room Parents will be in touch with you about donating milk, doughnuts, and juice and volunteering to sell refreshments after each Mass on Sunday.
Looking Ahead:
Picture Day
Our School Picture Day will be on Wednesday, September 14. Students should wear regular dress uniforms for the photos. No P.E. Uniforms on Picture Day!
Special School Mass
There will be a special school Mass on Friday, September 16 at 11:00 AM to celebrate the Opening of School. You are welcome to join us!
St. Jerome Parish Picnic
Our Parish Picnic will be held on Sunday, September 18 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Westchester Park. Please join us for Mass and stay for the food and festivities!
ITBS Testing
ITBS Testing will begin on Monday, September 19. Keep up your healthy routines of starting the day with a good night’s sleep and nutritious breakfast.

School Carnival and Silent Auction
The School Carnival is fast approaching, and the SSO is offering some great class incentives in order to encourage participation in our fundraising efforts for the Carnival and Silent Auction. At this time, there are two big ways you can help our class:

1. Donate items for our Silent Auction Class Basket: Scrapbooking Galore!
The class with the most items donated wins an Ice Cream Sundae Party!

Some ideas for items include: scrapbook albums, scrapbooking supplies (decorative paper, stickers, embellishments, acid-free markers, paper punches, edging scissors, photo corners, acid-free adhesive), gift certificates for local scrapbooking stores (A to Z Scrapbooking, Scrampers), a Cricut, a digital camera, photo maker, and gift certificates for Shutterfly or a local scrapbooking expo.

2. Sign up as a Volunteer for the Carnival and encourage your friends and family to sign up too!
The class with the most volunteers to sign up wins a Pizza Party!
