2nd Grade Parent Update
Week of September 26 - 30
Thank you for all of those who attended our Second Grade Social on Thursday.
If you missed it, don’t worry - we’ll have another get-together soon!
Announcements for this Week:
ITBS Testing
We completed our ITBS Testing last week on Friday with great success! I want to thank the students for all of their hard work and attention over the past week, and I also want to acknowledge you, their families, for supporting them in their efforts. Test results should arrive in about six weeks, and we can discuss any questions or concerns you may have at parent conferences in November.
September Awards Assembly
The Awards Assembly for September will take place on Thursday, September 29 at 8:00 AM on the Backyard. At the assembly, we will be recognizing the Virtue Award winners for this month. September’s virtue has been: Responsibility.
Feast of St. Jerome Mass
There will be a special school Mass on Friday, September 30 at 11:00 AM in honor of the Feast of St. Jerome, the patron saint of our parish. You and your families are welcome to join us!
Emergency Kits
Last week, you should have received information about putting together a kit for your child to keep at school in the case of an emergency. Emergency Kits are DUE on Friday, September 30. Please send the kits to the classroom this week.

Progress Reports
Progress Reports for the First Trimester will be sent home on Tuesday, October 4 only for those students who may be struggling in a particular area and may require additional support.
School Carnival and Silent Auction
The St. Jerome School Carnival is fast approaching - it will be held the weekend of October 21 - 23. This is a wonderful opportunity to “Come Together as a Community”, and the SSO is offering some great class incentives in order to encourage participation in our fundraising efforts for the Carnival. 
We have already received several of your volunteer forms, so thank you for your efforts so far! If you have any questions about donating or volunteering, you may contact our Room Parents or Mrs. Cobbs in the Main Office for details.
Don’t forget! At this time, there are two big ways you can help our class:

1. Donate items for our Silent Auction Class Basket: Scrapbooking Galore!
The class with the most items donated wins an Ice Cream Sundae Party!

2. Sign up as a Volunteer for the Carnival and encourage your friends and family to sign up too! The class with the most volunteers to sign up wins a Pizza Party!

2nd Grade Parent Update
Week of September 19 - 23
It was wonderful seeing some of you at the Parish Picnic on Sunday.

Announcements for this Week:
ITBS Testing
ITBS Testing will begin on Monday, September 19 and continue throughout the week. Keep up your healthy routines of starting the day with a good night’s sleep and nutritious breakfast. We begin testing promptly at 8:00 AM each morning, so please make an extra effort to arrive at school on time. Regular instruction will continue after recess each day, but students will have a reduced amount of homework and no spelling words this week. Children should be encouraged to listen carefully and do their best on the tests, but we do not want them to feel stressed out or overwhelmed. The tests will not count towards their grades.

Second Grade Social
The Second Grade Room Parents and I would like to invite you to an evening social this Thursday from 6:00 - 6:30 PM. We would like to take this opportunity to get together to discuss our goals and ideas for this year. Please look for your invitation in your child’s folder this afternoon, and please join us on Thursday!

Thank you to all who participated in our Family Mass this weekend!
Announcements for this Week:
Picture Day
Our School Picture Day will be on Wednesday, September 14. Students should wear regular dress uniforms for the photos. No P.E. Uniforms on Picture Day! The P.E. teachers have planned games and activities that can be played in the students’ regular uniforms and shoes.
Special School Mass
There will be a special school Mass presented by the 8th Grade on Friday, September 16 at 11:00 AM to celebrate the Opening of School. You and your families are welcome to join us!
St. Jerome Parish Picnic
Our Parish Picnic will be held at Westchester Park on Sunday, September 18 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Please join us for Mass and a blessing of the Catechists and stay for the food and festivities! Free In-N-Out burgers will be available to all, but you must register on the Parish website at: http://stjeromewestchester.org/ and click on the banner link for “Parish Picnic and Mass” to claim your burgers!

School Spirit Day

On Thursday, September 8, the Student Council is sponsoring a School Spirit Day as our first fundraiser!

On Thursday, students may make a small donation to wear non-uniform dress in our school colors of: RED, BLACK, and WHITE.
For the cost of $1.00, students may wear a non-uniform top in our school colors.
For the cost of $2.00, students may wear non-uniform tops and bottoms in our school colors.

Please refer to our School Policy Manual or send me an email for any questions about the Non-Uniform Dress Code. The School Policy Manual is accessible on the St. Jerome School website.

2nd Grade Parent Update
Week of September 5 - 9
I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing Labor Day weekend!
Announcements for this Week:
Computer Class Materials
Students will need their headphones and Computer Contracts for the Computer Lab this week. Please send in a set of headphones in a labeled Ziploc bag as soon as possible. The pink Computer Use Contracts are DUE by September 8.
Math Facts
The first chapter in our Math curriculum is a review of basic addition and subtraction concepts. I would like to suggest that you include practicing basic adding and subtracting as part of your regular homework routine. I encourage using flash cards, worksheets, online games, or any other strategies or media that work for your child. I particularly want to emphasize memorizing the “doubles facts” (2 + 2, 3 + 3, etc.) and “ways to make 10” (1 + 9, 2 + 8, 3 + 7, etc.). Feel free to contact me with questions or ideas!
Family Mass
Our Second Grade Family Mass will be on Sunday, September 11 at 9:00 AM. Our Family Mass will be shared with the Eighth Grade class, and this will be our opportunity to fundraise for field trips and classroom events for the school year. It is also gives us a chance to bring our new class together to worship and build community. Students should arrive at Mass at 8:45 AM in their dress uniforms to serve as greeters and singers in the choir. Our Room Parents will be in touch with you about donating milk, doughnuts, and juice and volunteering to sell refreshments after each Mass on Sunday.

Some ideas for items include: scrapbook albums, scrapbooking supplies (decorative paper, stickers, embellishments, acid-free markers, paper punches, edging scissors, photo corners, acid-free adhesive), gift certificates for local scrapbooking stores (A to Z Scrapbooking, Scrampers), a Cricut, a digital camera, photo maker, and gift certificates for Shutterfly or a local scrapbooking expo.

2. Sign up as a Volunteer for the Carnival and encourage your friends and family to sign up too!
