Announcements for This Week

Thanksgiving Food Drive
Thank you so much for your generous donations to our St. Jerome Food Drive. With your help, the Second Grade was able to collect over 200 cans and win the contest! Our Special Class Party will take place at a date and time to be announced!

November Reading Logs 
Reading Logs for the month of November are DUE on Monday, November 29. December Reading Logs will be distributed on Wednesday, December 1 and will be due on Friday, December 17. Since we will only be in school for three weeks of December, I will not expect the lists to be as full as usual. I would love to see about 12-15 entries for the month.

Report Cards
Report Cards will be distributed on Tuesday, November 30. If you have any specific questions or concerns that were not addressed at our Parent Conference, please email me or call to set up an appointment.

Looking Ahead

December Book Order
The Scholastic Book Order for December will be sent home this week. It is also available online along with a special catalog of Holiday Gift Books. Please make your orders from these catalogs by Monday, December 6. I want to make sure the books reach you in time for the holidays.

Immaculate Conception Mass
There will be a special school mass on Wednesday, December 8 at 8:00 AM in honor of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. This will take the place of our usual school Mass next week.

Christmas Program
The Christmas Program will be on Thursday, December 16 at 7:00 PM. The Second Grade Class will be performing as shepherds and animals in the performance of the Nativity and will be singing The Little Drummer Boy and Great Day in Bethlehem. Information about costumes will be sent home when I receive more details from Mrs. Toth. I am also asking parents to begin collecting materials for us to use to make drums to accompany The Little Drummer Boy. Bring in your oatmeal canisters, coffee cans, and mixed nut cans please!

Christmas Vacation
Friday, December 17 will be the last day of school before Christmas Vacation. School will resume on Tuesday, January 4, 2011!

Study for Social Studies Unit 2 Test
     -Pay close attention to the vocabulary words! 
     -Students should be able to identify the definitions of the words and be 
      able to understand how the words are used in context. 
     -Use the Reading Guides that students have completed in class to guide 
      your review of the "big ideas" in the unit. 
     -Map skills, particularly intermediate directions, will also be emphasized. 
     -The Unit Review on pp. 108 - 110 is a great study aid!

On Tuesday, November 23 at 8:00 AM, the Student Council will sponsor a Thanksgiving Prayer Service on the Backyard at Morning Assembly. Parents and families are welcome!

There will be NO SCHOOL on November 24 - 26 in honor of the Thanksgiving Holidays. Enjoy!

Week of November 15 - 19

Announcements for this Week:

Animal Habitat Diorama
Animal Habitat Dioramas are DUE on Monday, November 15.

Scholastic Book Club
The Book Order for November is DUE on Monday, November 15. Please submit your order online or return the order form to school with checks payable to Scholastic Book Clubs.  


Prayer Testing
This week, Mrs. Heppell will begin testing students on some of the important prayers they have been taught this year. Students should already be very familiar with the prayers that are being tested this trimester such as the Sign of the Cross and the Our Father.

Food Drive
The St. Jerome School Food Drive will take place this week. Please take this opportunity to speak with your children about the importance of charity in our Christian faith. We are encouraging students to bring in canned and packaged food and drinks for the LAX Food Pantry this week. The Student Council is sponsoring a contest to motivate students to get excited and involved in the Food Drive, so please bring in those cans by Friday!

Field Trip to the California Science Center
The field trip to the California Science Center's Ecosystems exhibit will take place on Wednesday, November 17 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Students should wear their school uniforms and comfortable walking shoes. We will be eating lunch at the Science Center, so students should bring brown bag lunches from home on the day of the trip. If you ordered Choice Lunch for Wednesday, it's not too late to adjust your order! On the Choice Lunch website, go to the "Change/Cancel" tab and cancel the lunch for Wednesday, November 17. You can receive a credit on your account or apply the lunch for another day.


End of Trimester and Report Cards

The first trimester ends on Friday, November 19. Report Cards will be distributed on Tuesday, November 30. For the most part, you can expect to see the same grades we discussed at Parent Conferences last week. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact me by phone or email.

Casino Night
Our St. Jerome Casino Night will be this Saturday, November 20! Enjoy an exciting evening of games, music, refreshments, and friends in the St. Jerome Parish Hall and Gymnasium!

Week of November 8 - 12

Announcements for this Week:
 
All Souls' Day Mass
There will be a Special School Mass on Monday, November 8 at 11:15 AM in honor of the Feast of All Souls. The 4th grade will be sponsoring this Mass, and you are welcome to join us as we remember and pray for the souls of the faithful departed.

Parent Conferences
There are still conference times available for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The sign-up sheets are posted in the hallway of Building A. Please take a moment to stop by school to sign up, or let me know by email which appointment time I can reserve for you.

Don't forget! School will be dismissed at 12:30 PM on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week.

Veterans' Day Holiday
There will be NO SCHOOL on Thursday, November 11 and Friday,
November 12 in honor of the Veterans' Day Holiday and a Teacher Inservice.
