Week of October 29 - November 2

2nd Grade Parent Update
Week of October 29 - November 2

Announcements for this Week:

Earthquake Kits
Please remember that emergency earthquake kits should be brought to school ASAP! We need to ensure that every student is prepared by having emergency supplies. Students should each have a gallon ziplock bag containing the following: water bottle, non-perishable snack, 3X5 card with contact information, note from mom and dad, and a photo of the student or the student with family.

October Awards Assembly
This month’s assembly has been re-scheduled for Wednesday, October 31 at 8:00 AM in the back yard. The Virtue Award winners for the month of October will be honored at this assembly. This month’s virtue is Responsibility. Students have been encouraged to make thoughtful choices, be honest about mistakes, solve problems using words, and take good care of their things.

Halloween Festivities
The St. Jerome Halloween Parade will take place immediately following the assembly on Wednesday, October 31 at 8:15 AM. Students will be permitted to wear costumes to school with the following guidelines:

-No Blood or Gore -No High Heels or Flip Flops
-No Play Weapons (Guns, Swords, Etc.) -No Bare Shoulders or Short Skirts

After the parade, students will return to the classrooms for fun seasonal activities. Please see the 2nd Grade Shutterfly page for volunteer and donation opportunities! Don’t forget that school will be dismissed at 12:30 PM on Halloween! Trick or treat!

All Saints’ Day Mass
Students will attend a special Mass on Thursday, November 1 at 8:00 AM in honor of the Feast of All Saints. This is a Holy Day of Obligation in the Catholic Church, and we will join with the parish community in celebrating the saints. Please make sure that students arrive at school at 7:45 AM on Thursday morning to ensure that we all make it to the church on time and safely. You are welcome to join us for this special Mass.

All Souls’ Day Mass
There will be another special school Mass hosted by the 4th grade class on Friday, November 2 at 11:00 AM. At this Mass, we will remember and pray for the faithful departed in our parish and school communities who have passed away this year. If you would like to have a loved one included in our prayers at Mass, please let me know.

Political Awareness Night
Our evening of political presentations and discussion has been postponed to Friday, November 2 at 6:30 PM. The evening will feature student-created videos about the propositions on the ballot this month as well as presentations by speakers who will share a social justice perspective on the ballot measures. This is a great opportunity to teach students about a real way people can be Christian leaders for our world.

Looking Ahead:

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Conferences will take place Monday - Thursday during the week of November 5 - 8. School will be dismissed at 12:30 PM each day during conference week, and there will be no school on Friday, November 9 due to a faculty inservice. Sign-up sheets for conference appointments will be posted in the hallway of Building A this week.

Veterans’ Day Holiday
There will be no school on Monday, November 12 in honor of Veterans’ Day.

Our next Gateway to Art session will take place on Thursday, November 15 at 1:00 PM. Please contact our docent, Mrs. Lugo, at rebecca-lugo@sbcglobal.net for volunteer info.
