2nd Grade Parent Update
Week of December 3 - 7

Announcements for this Week:

Advent Season
Yesterday was the first Sunday of Advent, and students have started learning about this special season in which we prepare for the coming of Jesus in the Nativity. We have spent time discussing how to make ourselves ready for Him through prayer, sacrifice, and good deeds. The holiday season is the perfect time to teach students about giving, and we hope you take advantage of the upcoming opportunities for Christian charity.

Missionary Childhood Association
Every year the Missionary Childhood Association invites schools to share in its mission of “children helping children.” We would like to encourage students to collect coins and small bills in the cardboard boxes that were sent home in folders today. The money that is collected will be forwarded to the MCA which is a Catholic organization that provides education, medication, food, and clean water to children around the world. This year, the focus country is India, so students will be learning about helping the needy there.

The 8th grade class is sponsoring a Toy Drive for our sister school, Mother of Sorrows. We are collecting new, unwrapped toys for students aged 3 - 14. The Toy Drive will continue through December 8 when we will present the donations to Mother of Sorrows at our Christmas Tree Pick-Up Day. The class who donates the most gifts will be rewarded with a special kickball game with the 8th grade class!

Hawaii Raffle
The Hawaii Raffle begins on Tuesday, December 4. We have a goal of 100% participation this year and hope to encourage the children to get involved by offering fabulous prizes and incentives like an iPod Touch and iPad.  Look for more info in the Family Envelope!

Christmas Grams
Student Council will be selling Christmas Grams at recess and lunch from this week though December 14. Students may purchase four cards and treats for $1.00 to be delivered to classmates, teachers, or friends. Remember that coins will not be accepted!
