Announcements for this Week

Living Wax Museum
The performance of the Living Wax Museum will be on Wednesday, June 1 at 5:00 PM in the Parish Hall. Students should arrive in costume and ready to perform their speeches by 4:45 PM. The Room Parents are organizing refreshments and a small celebration immediately following the students' presentations.

Scholastic Book Order
The Scholastic Book Order for June is due on Friday, June 3. Orders should be submitted online via the Scholastic Parent Ordering website.

Graduation
We will be attending the 8th Grade Graduation Mass on Friday, June 3 at 9:00 AM. The Graduation ceremony will be held Friday evening at 6:00 PM. Mr. Joseph is seeking volunteers from our class to sing in the choir for the Graduation services. Please return the slip or contact me for details.

General Parent Meeting
Please join us for the final Parent Meeting of the year on Monday, May 23 at 6:30 PM in the Parish Hall.  Be sure to check out our Gateway to Art projects on display at the meeting! I hope to see you all there!

Spirit Week
The Student Council is sponsoring a series of fundraisers this week to promote school spirit during the last few weeks of school. Here is a summary of the events planned for this week:
Monday - Snack Sale (Chili Fritos for $1.50 and Popsicles for $.75)
Tuesday - College Dollar Days (Tops, Bottoms, and Hats for $2.00)
Wednesday - Patriotic Dress Day (Tops, Bottoms, and Accessories for $2.00)

Thursday - May Crowning Mass (Bring flowers for Mary)

Living Wax Museum
The Living Wax Museum speeches will be due on Thursday, May 26. In these speeches, students should use their five facts to create a narrative in the first person that explains the accomplishments and legacy of their historical figures. Be sure to keep a copy of the speech at home so that students can practice over the weekend. The performance of the Living Wax Museum will be on Wednesday, June 1 at 5:00 PM in the Parish Hall. Parents, families, and friends are welcome to join us.

May Awards Assembly
The Awards Assembly for the month of May will be held on Thursday, May 26 at 8:00 AM on the Backyard.

May Crowning Mass
There will be a special school Mass on Thursday, May 26 at 11:15 AM in honor of the crowning of Mary. The 2nd Grade class will serve as the Honor Guard during this lovely celebration of our Lady. Students should be reminded to wear their regular dress uniforms on Thursday, NOT their P.E. clothes. Parents and families are welcome to join us on this special day!

Memorial Day Weekend
There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, May 27 due to a Faculty Inservice.
There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, May 30 in honor of Memorial Day.

Schedule Change for This Week!

ATTENTION PARENTS!

There has been an important schedule change for this week. The date of this week's Mass has been changed to Wednesday, May 18. Children should arrive at school at 7:45 AM on Wednesday this week, wearing their regular dress uniforms. This means that children should wear their P.E. uniforms on Thursday, May 19.

Please contact me if you have any questions about the schedule or dress code for this week. I apologize for the confusion, and I would be happy to help address any concerns.

Week of May 16 - 20

Announcements for this Week:

First Communion Preparation
Students who are making their First Holy Communion at St. Jerome on Sunday, May 22 at 9:00 AM will be practicing in the Church this week. The First Communion Family Banners are DUE on Wednesday, May 18. Students who are making their First Holy Communion should arrive at 8:30 AM on Sunday, May 22 to prepare for the ceremony. Seats will be reserved for the children's families on both sides of the church, and a seating guide will be sent home this week so that you may plan to sit near your children.

Living Wax Museum
The five facts about your child's historical figure will be due on Thursday, May 19. The list of facts does not need to be written in paragraph form, but it should be organized logically and chronologically. By next week, the students should organize these five facts into a speech (written in the first person, using "I" and "my"). The speech will be due on Thursday, May 26. The performance of the Living Wax Museum will be on Wednesday, June 1 at 5:00 PM in the Parish Hall. Parents, families, and friends are welcome to join us.

School Mass
Our weekly school Mass will take place on Thursday, May 19 at 8:00 AM this week since we will be having Activity Day on Friday. Please make sure that students arrive at school at 7:45 AM in their regular school uniforms. Students should NOT wear their P.E. uniforms on days that we celebrate Mass together.

Activity Day
Students will participate in Activity Day on Friday, May 20. Students should wear their P.E. uniforms and appropriate athletic shoes on Friday. They should apply sunscreen before school on Friday, if appropriate, and may wear hats to protect them from the sun during the day. Students will be dismissed at 12:30 PM on Friday, as usual. Since Activity Day will be on a Friday, we will have our weekly assessments on Thursday, May 19.

Scholastic Book Order
The Parent Online Order Forms are available on the Scholastic webpage for the months of May and June. Paper flyers should be available shortly. The due date for May is this Friday, May 20. The deadline for the June order is Friday, June 3.

Race for Success
The Race for Success will take place on Saturday, May 21 at 8:00 AM at Loyola Marymount University in Westchester. This fundraiser has the potential to earn a lot of money for our school, and I encourage you all to sign up as runners, joggers, walkers, or even "virtual" participants. Week of May 9 - 13

Happy Mother's Day to all of the moms, grandmas, and special ladies in our lives!

Announcements for this Week

First Communion Meeting
There will be a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, May 11 at 7:15 PM for the parents of students making their First Holy Communion this year. This meeting is for parents only (no children) and will cover some important preparatory information for the sacrament. For those families making First Communion banners, you should have received the background material and family name letters on Friday. The banners will be due on Wednesday, May 18.

Living Wax Museum
The list of sources for the Living Wax Museum report will be due this Friday, May 13. Students will receive a worksheet and some information about citing sources on Monday. Remember that students must have at least two sources of information to compile the data for their reports. They should bring one source to school on Tuesday for an activity in class.

Family Fun Day
The St. Jerome School Family Fun Day will be on Saturday, May 14 from 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Tickets are being sold at a cost of $10 per adult and $5 per child and include a meal! Arts and crafts, face painting, games, food, and entertainment will also be available!

Week of May 2 - 6

Welcome back to school! I hope everyone enjoyed a happy Easter and restful Spring Break. Can you believe it? We are in the home stretch of our school year - only 6 weeks left!

Announcements for this Week:

Living Wax Museum
Students will be receiving information this week about a long-term project for Social Studies. We will be creating a Living Wax Museum, featuring students performing the roles of important figures in history. The class will perform their Living Wax Museum reports during an evening presentation for parents and families at a date to be determined. Each student will be randomly assigned a historical individual. Their tasks will be to:

  • research the individual using at least two resources
  • resources may include Social Studies textbook, biographies, reliable Internet sources, etc.
  • report on at least five facts about the individual
  • report may include date and place of birth, education/upbringing, important contributions or discoveries, legacy, etc.
  • present the information (in character) at the Living Wax Museum exhibition
  • include a costume element and a prop that represents an important contribution of the individual

Hawaii Raffle Tickets
All Hawaii Raffle ticket stubs and money are DUE on Tuesday, May 3 in order to receive fundraising credit, but families can continue to sell tickets until the date of the Raffle, Tuesday, May 17. Please return any unsold books of tickets to the school office as soon as possible.

Sock Drive
Thank you all so much for your contributions to the Sock Drive! Overall, St. Jerome students donated over 500 pairs of men’s, women’s, and children’s socks to the Cardinal Manning Center in Skid Row. The Second Grade Class alone contributed 127 pairs of socks! Our class will be recognized for collecting the most socks with a pizza party this week!

Gateway to Art
Our last Gateway to Art session of the year will be on Thursday, May 5 from 1:30 - 3:00 PM in the Art Room. If you are interested in volunteering to help with the project, please contact our Gateway to Art docent, Mrs. Pedroza.

Tardy Policy
Thank you for making the extra effort to arrive at school in a timely fashion. Please keep up the good work! Don’t forget to get to school a few minutes earlier on days that we celebrate Mass together. This week, Mass will be on Friday. Students should be at school at 7:45 AM.

Mrs. Toth will be sharing important information about preparing for the Sacrament. She will also address any questions about the First Communion Banners. The background material and letters for your family name have been provided for you, but you will need to further enhance your banner using representations of bread and wine / wheat and grapes. Family Fun Day
The St. Jerome School Family Fun Day will be on Saturday, May 14 from 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Tickets are being sold at a cost of $10 per adult and $5 per child and include a meal! Arts and crafts, face painting, games, food, and entertainment will also be available!

Our End-of-the-Year General Parent Meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 17 in the evening! Mark your calendars, and I will keep you posted on the exact time of the meeting as soon as the information becomes available.
